ABUNDANCE. How do you sustain yourself? Nourishing yourself so that you can share your gifts with others is one of the lessons Lakshmi offers. She allows us to develop positive virtues. These riches attract abundance in areas of health, prosperity, and compassion.

The Goddess Lakshmi is the depiction of radiant feminine beauty. Seen seated or standing upon a lotus, she appears similar to the Tantric Goddess Kamla — both are goddesses of beauty, abundance, and prosperity; both rest in a bed of lotus petals with radiant complexions, red clothing, and jewels; both offer the mudras of blessing and protection while holding two lotus flowers; both are often flanked by elephants circulating the waters of the pool around them. Gold coins pour from one of her hands.
And yet Lakshmi has qualities that set her apart. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu, the emblem of love in marriage, the perfect wife. Where Kamla is the enduring Tantric totality, Lakshmi moves through life with you — presiding over every level of contentment and love. For success in studies, growing food, having children, business, and health, Lakshmi is the deity to call upon. This is a worldly love that leads, in time, to the divine love.
Understanding the play of Lakshmi in your life requires some tending to the tasks at hand. Focus on the work before you. Give your attention to your beloved. Cultivate receptivity — and then allow the luck and good fortune she showers freely to arrive. Lakshmi is said to be discerning in her giving. She gives to those who circulate her boons well, who help others, who are generous. She is not drawn by wanting. If you ever feel lacking, know that grasping will not attract her. Rather, take a new stance — see how beautifully the give and take already flows around you, notice where gratitude and generosity are alive, and stay curious to the many new ways this can continue to unfold.
May we all be blessed with her loving eyes and bountiful heart.
