Sri Yantra
PERCEPTION. Invoke the Supreme Goddess. Sri is the greatest of all Yantras and encompasses all that exists in the material plane. All that manifests is an expression of her Beauty. By meditating upon Sri, the cosmic order underlying existence is revealed. You will feel your natural relationship with the Universe — that all is as it should be, and that you are not separate from it.
SRI MANTRA
SREEM
Pronounced S-R-E-E-M
The Sri Yantra is the seat of the Goddess in all her forms — the visual depiction of the underlying organizational structure of the Cosmos, the Human Body, and the Goddesses of the Universe. Meditating upon this image brings understanding of your place in the Universe. By focusing on the sacred geometry of the Sri Yantra your own mind-body complex rests in tune with itself, recognizing itself as none other than the Divine Mother, whose lap you are already resting upon.
This Yantra is both practical and esoteric. Geometrically and geographically it describes the physical body and the earth planes; esoterically it opens into the knowledge of the gods and the states of deep meditation. The left and right hemispheres of the brain can both receive the information it presents and arrive together at a feeling of wholeness and contentment. The word Sri itself means great, revered, holy. This is the holiest of holies among all Yantras — just as OM is the Mantra of all Mantras, the Sri Yantra is the pinnacle of Sri Vidya study and worship. Layers of mantras are woven into its geometry, and the seed sound that carries through all of them is SREEM — a mantra that resides in the whole body, igniting energy in the pelvis and radiating upward throughout.
There are nine circuits of energy depicted in this Yantra. These correspond to the seven chakras — the energy centers of the central column — plus two additional circuits representing the lower body: the feet and the thighs. This subtle matrix can be felt in the way the colors move through the Yantra. The ninth and final circuit is the Bindu: the golden dot at the very center. This is the home of the soul, the location where the Goddess Tripura Sundari resides, and it is found in your own body at the crown of your head.
At the heart of the Yantra are nine main triangles — four pointing upward and five pointing downward. The downward-pointing triangles emphasize the Divine Feminine, Shakti, grounding, and the drawing of cosmic energies into daily life. In the Sri Yantra as painted by Sarah Yantra, this orientation is intentional — the focus is on the Divine Feminine and the cultivation of a deeper appreciation of life on earth as householders. If the Yantra is turned so that five triangles point upward, the energy shifts toward the masculine, toward Shiva — useful for those seeking seclusion and deep states of meditation.
If you feel you need to establish a deeper connection with the core of your being, this is the Yantra to work with. The many apparently fragmented parts of your personality or life journey will reveal their place in the greater picture. Wherever you place this Yantra in your home you will feel a raising of the energy there. It attracts wealth and is an auspicious symbol for wellbeing in all areas of life. If you place it on your altar, worship her as the Divine Mother herself. Jai Ma!
